PIRATE STORY TIME AT MARS HILL COFFEEHOUSE

Hollister— Ahoy, Parent s! If you are searching for activities for you and your wee ones to do together, then join us on Wednesday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at Mars Hill Coffeehouse for a frolicking good time at our “Buccaneer Bay” story time. We’ll be singing pirate songs, telling pirate jokes, and reading books about pirates.

Everyone is welcome to dress as his or her favorite swashbuckling bandit—Black Beard, Black Bart, Captain Morgan, Captain Kidd, or even that famous movie pirate—Jack Sparrow. Or just slap on your favorite eye patch and pirate bandana, hoist the Jolly Roger, and join in on the excitement!

Our story time will be presented by Hollister resident Julie Engelhardt. Julie has more than fifteen years’ experience offering story time presentations at schools and libraries in Southern California and at the elementary schools in the Hollister School District. Her idea is to present something different for the residents of Hollister, but she also wants to send a message to parents about the importance of reading to their children. “I love reading to children. They become so involved with the stories. I hope our first story time is a great success and that I will be able to come back many times to read other books to the children,” Engelhardt comments. “I would love to do a princess story time, a Medieval story time, one about animals, another about dinosaurs—the ideas are endless!”

This presentation is free and all family members are welcome. The program will begin promptly at 11 a.m. so make plans to arrive early for the best seats.

Mars Hill is also offering specials on coffee and non-coffee drinks during Story Time. 10% discount is available at the counter for everyone!

DivorceCare and DivorceCare for Kids

We begin hosting meetings for DivorceCare and DivorceCare for Kids at Mars Hill beginning Sunday, February 28th. The times will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

DivorceCare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

There are thousands of DivorceCare divorce recovery support groups meeting throughout the US, Canada and in other countries around the world. There’s a meeting near you – at Mars Hill!

DC4K

What Is DivorceCare for Kids?

DC4K is a special group to help your children heal from the pain caused by a separation or divorce. DC4K provides your children with a safe and neutral place to recognize and learn to share their feelings.

For 13 weeks your children become involved in a fun, caring group at RHCC/Mars Hill. The weekly session topics help your children learn that God’s love strengthens them and helps them turn their sadness to hope and their anger to joy.

Each session is filled with motivating and exciting activities. Games, crafts, role playing, discussion times, journaling and activity books help your children process the divorce and move forward in their lives. The music CDs, snacks, read aloud stories, exercises and Bible verses teach your children to relax and rest secure in God’s love. The Kids Like Me and Stories from the Bible video dramas present stories of children just like your children, who are experiencing divorce-related problems and have found help and encouragement.

Angel Tree Party

This Tuesday night, December 15th, we’ll be having our annual Angel Tree party. This is where the children in the program get to receive their gifts, enjoy some time with other kids, listen to Christmas music and just have fun.

7 to 8p.m. at Mars Hill is the appointed time and place. Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate with the kids!

Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. It seeks to transform the lives of these families and to reconcile them to their Heavenly Father and each other.

Just a reminder to all of those who are participating in the Angel Tree program that we need all the gifts brought to church this Sunday 12/13. We have invited the children and their families to come to a Christmas party on Tuesday night at Mars Hill to collect their gifts.

A HUGE thank you to all who participated, and everyone is welcome to come Tuesday night and help us celebrate with these children.

Winter Food Drive – Community Food Bank

Hello!

Each year we, as a church body, have been blessed to help out the Community Pantry with their Winter Food Drive. Our little pantry has grown up and is now the Community Food Bank of San Benito County and the need this year is greater than it has ever been!

We are, once again, supporting the food drive and we have barrels from the Food Bank ready to be filled up! These barrels are at each entrance door at Mars Hill. So while you are out & about, please take some time bring your donations downtown!
